E. Moo Young's Abstract Art Flyer #2
I'm reminded of an observation on Paul Klee- he worked as if no art existed before and he started from scratch, making the work 'render visible'. That is, the work is in the paper and he had to work to bring it out, to make it visible. So I'm always excited by what is to come each time I approach the paper and start working. What new form, technique or meaning can I bring in to existence. The approach is quite different each time and the results are, I think, unique.
Above are some of my output.
Your comments are important.

Contemporary Abstract Mixed Media Painting
This is the 34th in a series featuring and showcasing some of my contemporary abstract art paintings, drawings and digital experimentations.
Today's title is "The Great Leap Backwards". Sometimes you think you're progressing. Moving forward. Then a series of events explode. Setting back, obliterating all the gains that were made. We hope we're learning from the history of the past.
Rapid slashes of acrylic paint obscure the early drawings.

Contemporary Abstract Art Painting - "Darwin's Random Selection"
This is the 31st in a series featuring and showcasing some of my contemporary abstract art paintings and drawings.
Today's title is "Darwin's Random Selection". This original abstract artwork combines pen and ink drawing, pastels, watercolor, and acrylic paint on paper, mounted on card. The title came at the end of the process, as an ape-like figure appeared at the top. The drawing started as a wandering line traversing the invisible plains. The theory of evolution is a topic of sharp and discordant views. Which side are you on?
Browsing through a '97 issue of Vanity Fair, articles devoted to issues on saving Africa, "Out of Africa" caught my eye. An intriguing article by Spencer Wells, While Homo sapiens can be traced to around 200,000 years ago in the fossil record, it is remarkably difficult to find any archaeological record of our species between 80,000 and 50,000 years ago, and genetic data suggests that, due to extreme climatic conditions, the population eventually dwindled to as few as 2000 individuals.
To quote " And then something remarkable happened. It began slowly, with only a few hints of explosion to come. The first stirrings were ART - tangible evidence of advanced, abstract thought - and a significant improvement in the types of tools humans made. Then, around 50,000 years ago, all hell broke loose. The human population began to expand, first in Africa, then leaving the homeland to spread into Eurasia." It's a fascinating article. Read Vanity Fair, July 2007.

"Verdant" - Abstract artwork

VERDANT
Using oil pastels on black paper, meandering lines evolved into something abstract but tangible. After a long dry summer the land becomes verdant once more.
Today, distant rumble, dark ominous clouds warn of a downpour.
Worked on finishing two abstract pieces on paper, yesterday. I thought I was finished, but a new thought, a new technique changed the picture. Was it a piece of bad news that impelled me to slash red paint over a 'completed' piece? Who knows. When I'm working, the impulses intervene. I'm just a hand, a conduit.

Whipping up an Abstract drawing - Flagella

Whipped into Abstraction, into Existence
Artists staring at a blank sheet of paper can be stilled into inaction. Whipping out a pen and drawing in a 'whiplike' manner can start the process of creating a piece of abstract art moving. Randomly moving across the page, in a dream-like fashion, the process continues. Color is slowly added, a scribble here a slashing line there. It's a whirlwind of random acts.
The title came to mind - "Flagella". A flagellum, the singular form, is the latin word for whip. A flagellum is a tail-like structure that projects from the cell body of certain prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells and functions in locomotion. An example of a eukaryotic flagellated cell is the sperm cell. The cell uses its flagellum to propel itself through the female reproductive tract and the end result is a new life.
Abstract painting and drawing can encompass many forms, any subject. It's about anything and everything. It evokes meaning, it stimulates emotions, it can be a complex mass, a simple line or the choice of colors that render a poetic feeling visible. It should speak for itself, if anyone is listening. On the other hand, it can be tumultuous and exhilarating as a four storey drop, while sliding down a chute at Aquatica. While trying to look cool to my grandkids.

Abstract art - Global warner

This abstract painting developed from a wandering pen, drawings using colored markers, pen lines and acrylic layers.
As the artwork evolved, increasingly, I was reminded of 'seers', 'prophets' and people who suddenly seemed to get a vision of what would happen soon, in Jamaica. They would preach on the sidewalks in the busiest bus terminals, on the most jam-packed streets, anywhere the message could be heard - "Repent, the end is coming soon." This could go on for hours. Some curious onlookers would stop and stare. Other would hurriedly leave the area. Unless they got too boisterous no one would bother them. Well almost, there were always a few idlers who would mock them. Then the screaming would really begin - 'Repent! Repent or perish in eternal damnation.'
Though abstract in development, this contemporary artwork evoked nostalgic memories of times past.
