Today's Abstract Art Painting Gallery #27

TODAY'S Abstract Drawings Gallery #27

Abstract Art Painting
This is the 27th in a series featuring and showcasing some of my contemporary abstract art paintings and drawings.
The title is "Lamenting Mother." This original abstract artwork combines pastels, oil pastels, and acrylic paint on paper, mounted on card.

Using the gallery approach demonstrates how abstract artworks can be displayed on walls in a variety of colors.

The frame is used for design purposes to enhance the paintings, the frame are not for sale.

Abstract art on paper

ABSTRACT ART ON PAPER
Here are 3 examples of abstract works on paper done a few years ago. They were executed in pen and ink, acrylics, markers, oil pastels and pastels. Small abstract works on paper, start at times, as a process of 'fleshing out' thoughts and ideas, with the thinking that I'll enlarge and paint a larger version. It rarely happens. I'm more drawn to spontaneous work, tentative, intuitive and largely abstract. The thoughts and ideas evolve as if on a trek into the mind, lost in thought.

The Titles are 1. Contravene 2. Cornices 3. Declining Prude. ( A parody on the ever popular title 'Reclining nude')

"Verdant" - Abstract artwork

VERDANT
Using oil pastels on black paper, meandering lines evolved into something abstract but tangible. After a long dry summer the land becomes verdant once more.

Today, distant rumble, dark ominous clouds warn of a downpour.

Worked on finishing two abstract pieces on paper, yesterday. I thought I was finished, but a new thought, a new technique changed the picture. Was it a piece of bad news that impelled me to slash red paint over a 'completed' piece? Who knows. When I'm working, the impulses intervene. I'm just a hand, a conduit.

Art from the Barbershop

What could be more fluid - a wandering mind, black oil pastel, smoothily crossing the paper. The end result, it seems, resemble a Picasso etching viewed many years ago. On the right, it seems, curiously, like someone in a barber chair. The barber chair reminds me of a line from Pablo Neruda -
" A whiff from a barbershop does it : I yell bloody murder
All I ask is a little vacation from things: from boulders and woolens,
from gardens, institutional projects, merchandise.
eyeglasses, elevators -I'd rather not look at them."

Art, to me, is like that- it transports you to another time and place. Another era. Abstract art evokes thoughts far removed from mere depictions in a representative manner. Viewed at different times of the day, in a different light, new thoughts emerge. It has the power to rejuvenate itself, precisely because it is not something that you quickly identify, recognise, and then have no real desire to review again. Is the pale yellow background, just a back and forth rubbing of pastels? Or is it the steaming hot sun on a mid summer day in July? More paintings and drawings can be viewed at www.yessy.com/emooyoung
