The 50th in a series featuring and showcasing some of my Contemporary Abstract Art Paintings, Drawings, Collage and digital experimentations and explorations.

Today's title is "Roots Force". The abstract artwork fuses mixed media combinations of drawing, collage elements and painting. The innate force of roots in search of water, shifting all in its path. A relentless force in search of survival.

Using the gallery approach demonstrates how abstract artworks can be displayed on walls in a variety of colors.

The frame and mat around the photo are used for design purposes to enhance the paintings, the frame is not for sale.

TODAY'S Contemporary Abstract Painting Gallery #35

TODAY'S Contemporary Abstract Painting Gallery #35

Contemporary Abstract Acrylic Painting
This is the 35th in a series featuring and showcasing some of my contemporary abstract art paintings, drawings and digital experimentations.

Today's title is "A Complex History". Much of human history came from small discoveries- fire, the wheel, tools, agriculture, utensils. some shared, some kept in secret, others obscured by time. Some civilizations create massive enduring monuments, some societies are excellent sailors and fishermen, but live in primitive huts. Other great societies fly men to the moon, while nomadic tribes exist in the desert on a handful of grains. Such is the diverse and complex history of man...

From an unlikely series of structures, new forms emerge from them. Are they a composition of random selection or survival of the fittest or the smartest?

Using the gallery approach demonstrates how abstract artworks can be displayed on walls in a variety of colors.

The frame around the paintings are used for design purposes to enhance the paintings, the frame is not for sale.

Contemporary Abstract Mixed Media Painting Gallery #34

TODAY'S Contemporary Abstract Painting Gallery #34

Contemporary Abstract Mixed Media Painting
This is the 34th in a series featuring and showcasing some of my contemporary abstract art paintings, drawings and digital experimentations.
Today's title is "The Great Leap Backwards". Sometimes you think you're progressing. Moving forward. Then a series of events explode. Setting back, obliterating all the gains that were made. We hope we're learning from the history of the past.

Rapid slashes of acrylic paint obscure the early drawings.

Using the gallery approach demonstrates how abstract artworks can be displayed on walls in a variety of colors.

The frame around the paintings are used for design purposes to enhance the paintings, the frame is not for sale.

Skeletal forms

Skeletal Forms
The abstract artwork, "Skeletal Forms" was painted a long time ago. While exploring bones, structures and the uncanny strength that supports so much weight, led to a total re-arrangement of how our anatomy is structured. The elements would be now used in an abstract and random combination, To form a new 'personage'. Paint, color, line and form would take precedence.

The charcoal drawing underlay, led to color being introduced, then background color was added, scraped, changed, obscured, new forms revealed and blended into a new and unique composition.

Acrylic paint is versatile-it can produce from pale watercolor washes, to heavy impasto, it can blend with any medium or technique and it can be over-painted endlessly. Thick watercolor paper is essential for this rigorous process. To seal and preserve the painting, two coats of acrylic varnish is recommended.

Abstract Art Collage-"Flurry"

"Flurry" is a small abstract art collage, using a combination of pen and ink drawings, small paintings, acrylic painting and a flurry of rapidly drawn lines, vigorously executed.. In a sense, it's a flurry of activity, a flurry of elements combined to create a new combination, a new relationship to each other.

More abstract art collage, unique abstract expressionistic art, abstract pencil drawings, contemporary abstract art, experimental digital art, and prints can be viewed at http://www.yessy.com/emooyoung/gallery.html.

Abstract art group

This Abstract painting started as a loose charcoal sketch. Gradually acrylic paint was applied loosely, then the images were subdivided into segments. Figurative abstract heads made an illusionistic visit. Diffused by layers of overpaint. Subtly applied.
These and other works on this blog are small scale abstractions. Small is powerful.

Abstract art/collage-Emerald

This abstract painting combines pen line drawings, collage elements pasted on surface, wax drippings, acrylic paint in foreground and background. It was an attempt to create and use recycled art and build compartments of color in the foreground elements while using more subdued color and wax drippings in a more abstract manner in the background. This is an example of a contemporary mixed media collage painting.

Darwin in abstraction - the debate

This abstract artwork developed after I thought of doing a pen and line approach this time. Sometimes changing the medium, whether starting with pen lines, painting with a brush or using collage elements can trigger further thoughts and approaches. Here I stuck with a fluid line, wandering across the page. Abstract lines flowing, shapes forming, finally a head-like structure at the top. But the lines, flat in the beginning, began to require more volume. Subtle shading, gave the forms a swollen animated appearance. Shading the edges, short staccato lines added to the bulbous, swollen forms. Still colorless abstract forms. Then color was added to give additional depth to the forms and the object became more animated, more alive. Soft acrylic washes were added to the forms as well as the background.

The title 'Darwin" came to mind after the artwork was finished. Currently, the debate about Charles Darwin's theory of evolution rages on. The Catholic and Anglican Church appear to be more tolerant in the face of scientific evidence unfolding. The Fundamentalists, less tolerant, will not hear of any discussion other than the earth was made in seven days and God created man on the third day. I wonder what Abraham, father of the 3 great religions would be saying. Were there any awareness of dinosaurs in his time? Or that earth appears to have been evolving for many millions of years?

This is a small work-8.5 by 11 inches. Small is beautiful. Sometimes small works can trigger larger meaning and thoughts.
